The mushroom-karst viewpoint over Penemu lagoon — the most photographed scene in Raja Ampat.
Piaynemo — locally known as Pianemo — is the panoramic viewpoint over the mushroom karst formations of Penemu lagoon. It is the single most-photographed location in Raja Ampat, accessed by a 320-step wooden staircase to a panoramic observation deck.
The wooden staircase to the upper viewpoint takes about 15 minutes at an unhurried pace. The observation deck is wide enough to comfortably host a small charter group, and the view at first light is genuinely better than the photos. Most charters arrange the climb for sunrise.
Just below Piaynemo, Melissa's Garden is one of the gentlest and most-rewarding snorkel sites in Raja Ampat — soft and hard coral cover so dense you barely see the substrate. Friwen Wall is nearby: a deep coral wall snorkelable from the yacht.
The mushroom karsts photograph spectacularly from above. Drones are permitted at Piaynemo with prior coordination — we file flight plans with park management before takeoff.
Piaynemo features in every 5-day, 7-day, and longer charter. Send dates to plan the route.
